Seen & Heard: Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros
Even though their album was featured as my Heavy Rotation sidebar pick for a few weeks, and even though buzz about this band started full force back around SXSW earlier this year, i'm still attached to this song enough to talk about it again as something you should be listening to. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros is an ensemble group headed up by Alex Ebert, and their song "Home" would be a pretty solid contender if i were to make up a list of songs of the year (maybe i will, come to think of it). They're a little bit rockabilly, a little bit romantic hippie, a little bit bluesy, with an infusion of Arcade Fire and LSD. Most importantly, they're something you should listen to, as for a good part of their album Up From Below, the pieces seem to line up pretty effectively. I can't quite shake singing "moats and boats and waterfalls" as i wander around the house, and when i don't feel like listening to "Home", their song "40 Day Dream" is a standout as well (watch a live performance of it below). The sidewalk may be iced over, but at least there's some summer being piped into my eardrums. We must stay warm.
