67th Annual Golden Globe Nominations

This morning awards season was kicked off with the announcement of the nominees for the 67th Annual Golden Globes. There were some bizarre choices across comedy and drama categories for motion pictures, Sandra Bullock and Meryl Streep both received two nominations. Streep's not surprising, but Bullock's recognition for the decent (but ultimately mediocre) The Proposal as well as The Blind Side, is. Avatar snuck onto the list for Best Motion Picture Drama. Robert Downey Jr. got a nomination for the as yet to be released Sherlock Holmes, which i'm going to take as a sign that it's hopefully NOT as Wild Wild West-y as it potentially could be. Inglorious Basterds made a surprisingly good showing with nominations for Christopher Walz's villainous performance, Tarantino's direction, and Best Drama. It was, of course, beaten out by Up in the Air with 6 nominations and Nine with 5. As these are considered a good lead in to the Oscars i ask you to think about how strange it will be, in the future, when you see "Oscar nominee/winner, Golden Globe nominee/winner Mo-Nique" on trailers. Parallel universe, anyone?
